2008 begins, and this is a good time to talk about the results of the 2007 and our professional plans.
There are short reports from some of our key directions.
Device Direction
Driver and COM Development Direction
QA Direction
Research Activities
Some notes about other Directions
2007 was very successful and productive for our Device Direction. The functionality of existent projects was considerably extended according to the last innovations at the market of technologies and devices.
New types of devices were mastered such as iPhone and Garmin GPS. In addition, experience of complicated software development for Pocket PC devices was gained.
A number of interesting and difficult tasks were solved. It is worth to mention development of the self-tuning system of heterogeneous data analyzers, realization of physical reading of information from devices based on the Windows and Symbian operating systems, implementation of the universal USB driver for Windows CE systems.
Among the new technologies mastered this year such can be mentioned: IOCP, P2P, mechanisms of channel width limitation, work with HTTP Proxy, SOAP (gSoap + .NET), DNN system, development environment for platforms on ARM processors, Qt technology, technologies of licensing based on Dongle.
The plans for the starting 2008 are further expansion of work with iPhone and Garmin GPS, development of software for Pocket PCs, further expansion of existent projects’ functionality.
In 2007 the projects of this direction were broadened, solutions for intricate tasks were found, the functioning of our products was optimized and their architecture was looked over. It allowed increasing productivity of developed software considerably.
Among the scale and interesting tasks of the year we can mark effective work with media data on remote machines (some notes about it can be found here), including Flash support; realization of full-fledged network redirector/server; collection of statistics about the productivity of computers in a network. It discovered to be an interesting task to implement display drivers intended for such tasks as, for example, watching of windows covering on the screen.
One of the interesting tasks (it can be even named as revolutionary) was implementation of C++ exceptions support for the drivers in the 64-bit mode.
Projects for MacOS and also Linux-projects were actively developed too.
Talking about plans for the 2008 we mention further expansion of work with Linux and also optimization of the Direction organizational structure.
2007 became the year of changes for our QA Direction. First of all it was organizational changes. The number of Testing Direction members increased twice. New position of Product Specialist appeared, that allowed to improve work with clients’ expectations and feed-back, define estimations and feature lists more exact and increase general quality of products.
Our specialists mastered working with SilkTest and TestComplete systems, Shell and Java scripting, extended their experience in testing estimating, test documentation composing and usage.
Main plans for 2008 are to introduce auto testing structure and to improve our specialists’ professional skills especially junior specialists’ professional level.
2007 became especially important for our Research Direction in organizational scope. The optimal scheme of tasks and duties assignment was found, and also active learning of researchers inside the company began, that allowed to multiply the Direction staff almost twice.
Deep Symbian research was conducted; also C# research and work in area of Windows administration were successful. In order to provide effective work with iPhone deep investigations were performed in very short terms. We launched research projects for providing development and complete cycle of work with our own devices.
It was interesting to implement loaders for the NAND memory dumping in Samsung phones. The work with hardware sniffer of USB connections - USB Tracker – was also very useful.
When solving various tasks guys from our Research Direction got new experience, namely: low-level work with USB protocols, development of code for the AT91 microcontroller in IAR for ARM, debugging through JTAG (hardware debugger), studying EPOC 9 format.
Research activities are very various, and that is why it is hard to compose long-term plans. Main goal for the next year is to complete learning of junior researchers inside the company.
In our Network Security Direction the OutsideIn and ICU converting libraries were mastered; experience of working with boost technology was extended. Plans for 2008 in this scope are to gain knowledge in area of the reverse engineering, extend experience of component model of programming usage.
Our Internet Direction also keeps working successfully. A lot of interesting tasks were solved, concerning data exchange in intranet and Internet, hardware control in the networks, updating software and performing other operations with data in local and global nets. |
